Doug harris has been one of the top golfers in tennessee for years.

So for the franklin native to say that qualifying for the U.S. Senior Open is a dream come true really means something.

As fox 17's Dan Phillips tells us, it's about a whole lot more than just golf!

Doug Harris has been playing--- and winning tournaments for years.

But qualifying for the a tournament as prestigious as the U.S. Senior Open is something special...

Doug Harris: "it's something that everyone who's ever picked up a golf club has dreamed about. Fortunately, i'm blessed enough to have that opportunity. Finally."

The 54-year old with plenty of experience and inspiration to draw from.

Including 53-year old Greg Norman...

The shark sinking his teeth into the field at last week's british open nearly claiming the claret jug.

Doug harris: "you watch somebody like Norman, Norman's got a 23-year old and a 53-year old mind. I've got probably got a forty-something body in a 54-year old mind."

Age is one thing.

Wisdom is another.

And Harris is eager to share this unique experience with those closest to his heart.

Doug Harris: "my wife Nancy and my daughter Morgan, she's been working in Florida all summer. So i haven't seen her since may. She's flying in. Douglas is going to be on the bag for the tournament. It's going to be so special."

Feeling good and playing some of the best golf of his life, so there's just one thing left to do...

"go make the cut, contend, and win the thing?"

Doug Harris: "that's all that's left. (Laughs)

Regardless of how he plays, doug harris will have memories that will last a lifetime.
