Cumberland Co. Begins School
Students in Cumberland County will finally begin classes Monday morning after a budget crisis kept them out of the school system for two weeks.
A court ruling forced the Board of Education to open schools by Wednesday. The schools were delayed for two weeks due to a battle to cut $5 million from its budget.
In a special meeting Saturday night, board members passed a budget that is now only $3.2 million in the red.
The school board will meet with the county budget committee in hopes of getting extra funding to make up the difference.
Students will be in classes for a half day Monday and will be off on Tuesday for an administration day. Wednesday will be their first full day of class.Cumberland Co. Begins School
